We all strive to make New Year's resolutions. Most of us don't achieve them. We usually have a main goal and this tends to be the most popular choice among New Year's resolutions, which is to lose weight.
We usually then make a half-hearted effort to resolve to achieve other goals. Then we usually see our long list, get overwhelmed, get busy, and don't achieve any of our resolutions.
Here are the top 5 New Year's resolutions and how you can achieve them.
When asked what people wanted to achieve in the New Year, most people said they wanted to learn something new, get healthier, lose weight, get fit, and manage stress.
That seems like a tough list to crack and a lot to do. Never fear. The secret is to find a way to achieve them all by combining them into one main item.
I'm really big about trying achieve that "one thing" every day. It doesn't have to be much. It could be something really simple, but I try to make sure I accomplish one extra thing every day (it could be cleaning the toilet!).
So how do you combine getting in better shape, helping your stress, improving your overall health, drop some pounds, and learning something new? The best way I know how is to learn Tai Chi.
Why Tai Chi and not some other exercise?
Tai Chi is something anyone can learn, no matter what shape you're in or what age you are. It has been proven to reduce stress. You can be practice it in the comfort of your own home.
One of the great things I like about this combination of art and exercise is that it is deceptive. What I mean is that it doesn't look like it would do much for you, but in fact does more to improve your core strength and flexibility than many exercises.
You also don't damage your body like other intensive exercises which pound and stress your body. It improves your mental state as well because you are learning something new.
What else does the research say about Tai Chi?
It has been shown to lower your blood pressure, help you sleep longer and have an enhanced quality of sleep.
In terms of mental benefits, Tai Chi is an effective way to improve your mood and reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. It improves your ability to relax too.
